FAQ'S

When does registration for the spring season begin?

Registration opens the first week of December and typically runs through the first week of February.

If I miss the registration deadline, can my child still play?

Online registration will close at midnight on the final advertised day, but it is still possible to register and be placed on a team. An email to the league must be sent requesting late registration and pending placement on a team. If there are teams with room available, the league will either place players on those teams until they are full or a coach must grant permission to allow the player on their team. NO players are guaranteed placement on a team after the deadline has passed, even if a coach is expecting that player on his roster.  A $20 late fee will be applied to all registrations accepted after the deadline.

What is the length of the spring season?
The season usually begins in late March and ends in late May to mid-June weather permitting. T-ball and coach pitch leagues will typically end in late May whereas the kid pitch leagues will often go into the first or second week of June due to making up games that have been rained out.

When are games played during the week?
Games are played Monday-Saturday. T-ball and coach pitch begin games at 6:00 Mon-Fri and generally last no more than 1 hour and 15 minutes. Kid pitch games play at 6:00 and 7:45 Mon-Fri with a duration of approximately 1 ½ hours. Saturday games begin at 10:00am and are played at intervals throughout the day. Sunday games will only be scheduled due to excessive rainouts.

How many games are played?                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Approximately 12 games can be expected in most leagues for an average of 1-2 games per week weather permitting.

When do teams practice and how many times per week?                                                                                                                                                                Generally teams practice about 1-2 times per week prior to the start of the season.  Practice times are set by the league for each team desiring to practice at our fields.  JYB offers each coach one weekday and one weekend practice time slot for up to 1.5 hours (younger teams will likely not practice as long as older teams).  It is up to each coach whether his/her team practices once or twice per week.  Practice schedules are not released to the coaches until mid-February, so player requests for preferred practice times cannot be honored.   Weekday practices typically begin around 5:30-6:00pm.  Weekend practice times are offered through each day: Saturdays beginning at 10:00am and Sundays beginning at 1:00pm.

What is the cost to play?
See our Spring page for this information.

Do I have to purchase my own uniform?
T-Ball 4-5 fees include a team uniform shirt and hat. Any additional pieces such as pants or socks may be purchased separately at the time of sizing or otherwise depending on if the team decides to buy them.
For all other leagues, uniforms will need to be purchased prior to the start of the season. This is up to each individual coach/team as to what the uniform will include and where it will be purchased. Full uniforms for instructional teams should cost no more than $75-$100.

Is JYB an age-based league or grade-based league?
Teams are formed by age, not grade. The age cut-off date is April 30.
How do I determine what age group my child falls into?
The age of the child on or before April 30 of the current spring season is the age group he/she would play in for this season. For example, a player turns 9 on April 29, then he must play in either the 9U competitive league or the 9/10 instructional league. He cannot play in the 8U because he is still 8 when he is registered.

What is the league’s policy on playing up or down a league?
A child may play one age group above his/her current age. Players may not play up 2 years without JYB Board approval.
Players may NOT play down in any age group unless they qualify for the grade exception.

How many players can play on a team?
For all t-ball, coach pitch, and instructional teams, approximately 11-13 players is the league recommendation. The league will not place more than 13 players on a team without permission of the coach. A minimum of 10 is required for all teams.

What if I don’t have a team?
All players must register as "Unassigned" if he/she has not been invited to play for a specific team/coach. The league will place unassigned players on teams that need players or will create new teams if enough players exist to do so. It is extremely rare that we cannot place players on teams.

Can my child play on a team with his friends?
You may request to be placed on a team with specific children in the special requests box on the registration form, or you may form a team of your own and build a team with players of your choice. The league will then fill the team if you do not have a full team.

I would like to coach my own team. What if I don’t have enough players?
The league will fill your team for you if enough players are available or we will combine your team with another team and coach who need players as well.

Can a coach add a player after the cut-off date?
Teams may only add players if the team has an open spot and the coach agrees to an additional player.

What is your refund policy?
No refunds will be given once rosters have been released to the coaches at their Spring Coaches Meeting.  Convenience fees are non-refundable at any time.
